Nylon Template Cutting

Over the years L Hodge Engineers (UK) Ltd has carried out many jobs for customers in the Food, Confectionary, Packaging, Processing, Paper and Paint Processing industries, the Aircraft and Medical sectors, as well as machining parts for Racing Cars, Special Purpose Machinery and bespoke Mechanical Handling Plant. Below you will see some samples of the work we have carried out. [top]

Paint Making Industry

Paint dispenser valve base manufactured for calibration in paint mixing plant. The base plate was machined from a solid aluminium billet. Each of the different dispense valves were machined and assembled on site. There where 221 parts to this job.
[top]

Paint calibration head for paint mixing plant. This job was made up of 221 parts.
Set of drum teeth for a timber crushing plant.

Furniture Industry

Set of tungsten carbide teeth of various sizes set into a mandrel at set intervals for cutting specific width hardboard and chipboard, for use in the furniture making industry.
[top]

Submersible Vehicle Industry

Machining of casting for water treatment system to purify water onboard submersible vessel. This job was made from a bronze casting. Castings can be machined to provide high precision surfaces for pressurised pipe joints.
[top]

CNC machine milling applied to a cast pressure plate for boiler feed.
Roller for moving confectionary products along conveyer plant. This is one piece of many for a complete machine which L Hodge fabricated and assembled.

Confectionary Industry

Semi assembled machine for confectionary industry with example of large stainless steel side plates machined all over. This job required machining of two large side plates, multiple spiral rollers, a large rubberised drive roller for conveyor belt, plus other parts. This was a one off machine built to customer design for moving confectionary along a production line.

Food processing Industry

Steam cooker. Steam cooker assembly for a confectionary company designed to cook six gallons of chocolate per minute. This item consisted of multiple parts machined from bronze and stainless steel 316 from solid billets and assembled. The center scraper designed to keep the internal surface of the barrel clean, is made up of teflon coated scraper blades mounted to a rotating cylindrical frame on pivots. The complete assembly weighed approximately over a 1/4 tonne. The item was originally centered in the US, not cast and was valued at £22k before it had arrived at the L Hodge Engineers workshop.
[top]

One part of many. This part is set inside a cylinder within which chocolate is processed. The blades, currently taped up, continually scrape the inside of the copper tube clean to prevent a build up of solidifying chocolate.
The entirety of this machine was manufactured by L Hodge Engineers and assembled inhouse. L Hodge Engineers do not offer a finishing service inhouse but can outsource small jobs like this.

Building Industry

Miniature machine manufactured for underpinning company for use in restricted spaces for piling concrete. This one off item was made and assembled to customer design for special use in tight spaces. The clutch mechanism was purchased and fitted into a machine housing made from mild steel.
[top]

Plastics Industry

Hoppers spreaders and barrels. This machine was designed by the customer to preprocess and colour raw plastic material. Items in this plant included heating hoppers, spreaders, barrels, cutting assemblies for pelletising the plastic and various other functional parts. The hopper was machined, heat treated and then ground internally to close limits for precision fitting of a pressure screw. The parts were shipped to the customer and then assembled and tested.

L Hodge Engineers fabricated many of the parts for this plastics processing plant, although in its finished state many of them cannot be seen.
L Hodge Engineers machined many of the parts for this performance bicycle including the wheel hubs, rims, crank set and axles.

Prototype Development

Prototype development of carbon composite racing bike. Machining of hubs from aluminium round bar and anodising. Also machining an aluminium mould for moulding carbon fibre wheel rims. Mould design was a collaborative effort between L Hodge Engineers (UK) Ltd and the customer to make sure the end product was optimised and functioned satisfactorily.

Custom Car Parts

Custom car parts. L Hodge Engineers (UK) Ltd can replicate existing plastic and cast car parts in polished aluminium and other materials to customers requirements. The photos to the right show an oil cap, window-winder handles, gear shift base plate, handbreak handle sleeve, shelf dividers, control knobs and a gear stick knob as examples, but we can customise any part to your specifications.

Custom made car parts machined to your specifications.
L Hodge Engineers can work with a variety of materials. Titanium has been used for this linking rod because of its high strength and low weight characteristics.

Formula Racing Cars

Titanium linking rod for high performance formula racing cars. L Hodge Engineers (UK) Ltd can machine parts from a wide range of exotic metals such as Phosphor Bronze, Monel 400, Chrome Nickel, Brass (naval), Silver Steel and Hastelloy or any other tool steels.
[top]

Aircraft Industry

Component part for aircraft industry made from solid round bar of stainless steel 316. This part has large internal and external radius contours making it a job awkward to hold.
[top]

Many parts can present quite a challenge to machine. Jobs like this, about 25mm across, with complex radial arcs require considerable thought before hand regarding just how to order the cuts in the most efficient manner.
L Hodge Engineers have considerable experience in machining precision parts for the aerospace industry where accuracy can be measured in tenths of a millimetre.

Aircraft Industry

Aircraft Spec aluminium component. The top surface is 19mm across and side hole shown to far right middle of shot is 0.5mm.
[top]

Aircraft Industry

Light aluminium component part for aircraft, machined from a solid.
[top]

We cater for long term orders and provide 'just in time' and 'ship to line' deliveries as well as weekly or monthly call offs.
L Hodge Engineers can machine one off’s, provide spares, make repairs, replace parts, carry out refurbishments and fulfil runs of up to 500 off.

Aircraft Industry

Machined aircraft component made from solid billet. This difficult to hold component was machined in multiple stages and incorporates a large number of cutting arcs and curved surfaces.
[top]

Aircraft Industry

Stainless steel component aircraft, made from Hestalloy. L Hodge Engineers (UK) Limited can manufacture precision components from drawings or existing parts. We are happy to machine replacement parts and to carry out repairs.
[top]

The nature of precision machining lends itself to the more exacting industries such as medical machinery, photography and film, scientific equipment and high performance racing cars. L Hodge Engineers develop close customer relations in order to determine the customers exact requirements.
L Hodge Engineers will machine components in plastic to customers specifications.

Aircraft Industry

Plastic machined aircraft component part made from black Nylon. L Hodge Engineers (UK) Ltd have experience with a range of other plastics such as Nylon 66, PVC, Tuffnol, or glass filled material. Suitable for cheaper, or non corrosive applications.
[top]

Medical Industry

Medical component. Stainless steel 316. These items were difficult to machine internally due to the tapered bore. The end product was polished all over.

Jigs & Fixtures

Jigs & fixtures. The blue fixture is for the automotive industry, and the grey item is a jig for compressing and testing dough before use. We can make fixtures & jigs from customer design or copy existing items which have been tested and proved.

Fabrication

Fabrication Pressure lid for cooking dog food, made of 3 parts, a stainless steel 316 ring with a dome spun out of stainless steel and welded to the ring. The dome was cut in the middle and a third center piece was welded in along with lifting hooks. The item was then machined flat on the mating face, around the bolting slots and holes to make sure the sealing face was flat. Finally the whole item was finished by vapour blasting.
